The Newsboys music video We Believe is a powerful statement of faith in the God of the Bible and the promise of eternal life in Jesus. My brother Brien told me, just before he died, that he loved this song. I have found great comfort in knowing that, since Brien’s death was very sudden and unexpected.
This happened about three times. Finally, he gave up in frustration and started to leave the store. But, before he reached the door, he had another strong impression that he should go back and look through the “unfamiliar” CDs one more time. Which he did. This time his eyes landed on The Newsboys whom he had recently seen perform in the movie “God’s Not Dead”. Although he didn’t recognize the titles for any of the songs, he decided to buy the CD. He called me later and was very excited to tell me about what happened and how much he loved the song “We Believe”.
As I said earlier, my brother Brien passed away very unexpectedly shortly after this incident. I think the Lord allowed all of this to happen so that I would be comforted in knowing my brother’s faith in Jesus was genuine. Like me, Brien believed in the resurrection from the dead and I am encouraged that he is more alive now than ever before. I’m looking forward to the day we will be together again, because…
We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back again
The Newsboys Background:
The Newsboys are the best-selling Christian pop rock band to date, having achieved 33 number one hits and 6 Gold records. Their longest running #1 single being “We Believe. The group, originally called “The News”, began in 1985 and consisted of four “Aussie” boys… Peter Furler, George Perdikis, John James, and Sean Taylor of Queensland, Australia. They decided to change their name to “The Newsboys” after getting a recording contract in 1987 with U.S. based Refuge Communication in order to avoid a conflict with the already famous band “Huey Lewis and the News”. Their first U.S. album “Read All About It” was released in 1988.
The band turned out four more albums between 1990-1994, but their efforts did not get much attention. The members were in a continual state of flux. In 1994 Jody Davis and Duncan Phillips joined the group and things began to improve. In 1995 they released their fifth album “Going Public”, winning the Dove Award for “Rock Album of the Year”. They’ve been soaring pretty high since then.
Their fifteenth album, “God’s Not Dead” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Albums chart in 2014. The title track was certified Gold on May 27, 2014 and was used in the motion picture by the same name.
