E Major Scale:
The E Major Scale has 4 sharps C# F# G# D#. It is the fifth key in music as shown in the Circle of Fifths.
- Memorize the notes for the E MAJOR SCALE in first position on the guitar.
- Practice playing the scale forward and backward.
- Incorporate it into your warm-up session.
- Remember to use the correct finger on each fret.
Below are the degrees, letters and pattern of whole steps and half-steps that are needed to make the E Major Scale.

The sharps from the previous scale were retained. The new sharp came in at the 7th degree, making a
total of 4 sharps for this key… C# F# G# and D#.
It’s important to practice and memorize the five major scales in first position that I’ve given you so far. There will be many more scales and chords to learn in the days ahead!
